From The Ground Up: Stories From People That Built Common Ground

Common Ground has its roots in the early 1990s, when a group of passionate, determined educators and community members came together to create something new. Check out some of what they shared below — then please take a minute to respond in the comments section to these two questions:

What exciting possibilities do you see for Common Ground’s future?
What does Common Ground need to be sure to preserve as we continue to grow?

I think you should try to include Joan Gillette’s name somewhere as one of the founders, dedicating some part of the memory to her hard as well.

Honoring Joan is so important to us, Sandy. Common Ground would not exist without her intelligence and hard work. We hope that some part of her voice can come through in the collection of poems that we share in this video. We have plans, as well, to recognize her contributions on our site, and look forward to putting those plans into action in the coming year.

I think Common Ground is ready to grow beyond New Haven. Our heart should always be in this city, but I think that other cities need places like Common Ground, as well.
