Meet our new Environmental Leadership Manager…Candi Fulcher!

Common Ground has a new Environmental Leadership Manager! Her name is Candi Fulcher, she’s from New Haven and is excited to get started at CG!

Check out the Q & A and accompanying video of Candi.

Q: What were you doing professionally before coming to Common Ground?

A: “I’ve worked with nonprofits my entire career. Most recently I worked with New Haven Reads, I ran a site that serviced 175 students a week. We worked on literacy and reading comprehension skills.

Q: What about Common Ground made you want to work here?

A: “I’m from the area and I’ve heard about a lot of the great things that (Common Ground) does for the community and the students and it’ll give me an opportunity to learn more and develop my skills as an educator. “

Q: Why have you chosen to work in non-profits and education?

A: “As a child I always came across educators who were motivated about creating new experiences for me and my peers and those experiences opened up what we thought we could do with our lives and I want to be that for other people.”

Q: Talk about the feeling fulfillment when you’re seeing a kid succeed?

A: “It motivates me to keep going, all kids progress at different levels and different speeds so just seeing a kid feel better about themselves is a motivator. Seeing a tangible thing like a test score or a report card (improvement) is great. Seeing them learn a skill that they didn’t know prior to, that keeps me going and gets me up for work everyday.”

Q: What does Candi Fulcher bring to Common Ground?

A: “I want to bring my experience as an inner city kid to the position, I can relate to some of the issues the kids face. I want to be (part of a) support system for the students as well as the staff and grow as an educator.”
