Javier Martinez, 18, had attended a renowned charter high school, interned in nationally competitive programs and was about a week away from purchasing a car with money he had earned at his job.
Colleges had reached out to him, asking that the high-achieving student apply.
By all accounts of family, friends and educators, he was a bright, hard-working and empathetic young man with a love for the environment and a desire to make the world a better place.
