Spring Registration is Now Open for Children’s Programs

Now is the time to register your child for a fun-filled outdoor program. We have multiple programs for children of all different ages.

Toasted marshmallows help warm our students from the inside out

Seedlings class is for children ages 1-4 along with their caregiver. Each week starts with a short, open-ended play period while everyone is arriving. After that we do some seasonal farm chores – feeding animals, watering in the garden, or anything else that our youngest friends can help with. After farm chores, we will enjoy a seasonally themed activity.  Activities include meeting farm animals, walking in the woods, digging in the mud kitchen, tasting and smelling in the children’s garden, looking and listening at the wetland, and more! This is a great opportunity for both children and adults to get outside make new friends.

Kids play, splash, learn and explore our campus wetland.

Kids Unplugged  gets your child (K-6) unplugged and outside, exploring nature, hiking, imagining, growing food, making friends, and having fun! Our activities follow the seasons and children have a choice of activities at each weekly class. Fall is for hiking in West Rock Park, harvesting and cooking from the farm, caring for farm animals, and playing in the woods! We will build forts, hold chickens, have campfires, play games, and make home made pizza. Winter is time for snowshoeing, building snow forts, following wild animal tracks in the snow, making maple syrup, cooking and baking in our teaching kitchen, and enjoying nature arts. Springtime brings baby farm animals, wildflowers, and gardens to be planted! We will dig in the dirt, wade in streams, play and hike in the woods, care for baby chickens, and make new friends!

Home School Programming for ages 3-12 builds community and challenges kids to use their senses and imaginations while actively engaging with the natural world. We welcome up to 30 children (with 3 teachers) in our fall and spring mixed-age class. We welcome homeschoolers as well as preschoolers whose families do not necessarily plan to home school once their child reaches school age. This class is for ages 3 – 12, and the majority of participants are typically ages 3 – 9. Each week starts with a welcoming activity. This is play and social time for children and parents as everyone arrives. Each week, children may choose from 2 – 3 different activities (the number of choices depends on total enrollment), and our children ages 3 – 5 will have 1 or 2 activities designated especially for them. Our classes are entirely outdoors (unless we have a special cooking or art activity that needs an indoor space), and we are here rain or shine.

Our Environmental Educators teach children about the natural world and the ecology of CT’s forests.

School Vacation Days are a choose-your-own-adventure exploration of the farm and forest. Each day, children can choose from a variety of farm and nature based activities – they can sign up for the activity that they are most excited to do! We offer one activity session in the morning, then we all have lunch together (children bring their own lunch), then we have another activity choice after lunch. Dismissal follows the second activity session. Children who are staying for extended day (2 – 4 PM) have snack time (bring your own) and then they have open recreation time. Extended day activities include games, art, and outside playtime! Vacation Day programs have MIXED AGE groups. Each activity choice has space for 12 children, and those children are likely to range in age from 5 – 12. Remaining dates for spring are: Feb. 19 and 20, Mar. 30, and April 16-20
Limited financial aid for some programming is available to qualified applicants from any town. Apply online HERE .
